How to Wear High-Waisted Shorts and Skirts: The Ultimate Vintage Look

Fashion | 08 February 2011

by

The high-waisted trend has been around since the 1940s and it will be around for quite some time, which I am ecstatic about! It is the ideal fashion tip to elongate your legs and accentuate your waist. High-waisted bottoms are also a solution to every girl’s dread: the muffin top. The key is to find bottoms that hit your natural waist and hug your hips. Who doesn’t want to look like a tall vintage-inspired beauty queen?
Here are some style tips of how to attain the classic and sophisticated high-waist style:

1. Make sure your high-waisted shorts are nice and snug, they will be unflattering on you if there is bunching of the fabric.
2. Cropped tops are ideal for the high-waist look because of how easy they tuck in. Tuck in your shirt if you want to pull off this look, but don’t pull the top out too much because this adds volume to your waist. Also, do not tuck in too much or else you will look stiff and uncomfortable.
3. Belts are a great addition to this look. Pick a skinny belt to draw attention to your high-waisted style, or to emphasize your upper body and cinch your waist, a wide belt is perfect!
4. Heels heels heels! These are the perfect final touch to this look because heels add to the elongated look of the legs.

Here are some perfect options from Lulu*s to start you off with this trend the right way:

Now you are ready to show off your vintage-inspired look?

DJ Mia Moretti at Coachella!!!

Fashion | 28 April 2010

<!–Our favorite DJ MIA MORETTI has been super busy and is probably still recovering from Coachella, where she played up a storm. Mia just sent me these pics of her at Coachella keeping the music going on and off the festival.

On the left is Mia DJing at the Indioasis Music Lounge, where she played along side Macy Gray and Sky Ferreira among many others!

Mia is not only a music guru, but a fashionista of the highest kind! I love how Mia stayed LA glamorous while mixing it all up. Mia paired an oversized bright rose red hat with a short and loose cropped top. The tropical printed cut offs keep this outfit funky and the red lipstick matches the bright headband to finish it off.

Below is Mia in a sweet printed tee with Danny Masterson at the Diesel Artist Brunch!

Mia also played at the Music Loves Fashion event with the electric violinist Caitlin Moe! Mia and Caitlin just did a tour together, and I don’t doubt they blew up this party.

And here are some other pics of Mia out and about. First is Mia at the Festival captured by photographer Mark the Cobrasnake. I like her light and loose top with the printed skirt and leather handbag

Below is Mia in a custom Jeremy Scott “Angel Toga” at the Jeremy Scott X Adidas Coachella After-Party.

Glee Your Style

A new fashionista is making her way to Wednesday nights on Glee! Actress Jayma Mays plays Emma Pillsburry, the guidance counselor on Fox’s new series Glee. We couldn’t help but gush about her character’s adorable style, which is a combination of vintage, prep and a little whimsy.

On a school day, you’ll usually find Emma sporting a feminine blouse, colorful cardigan, high waist skirt and an eye-catching accessory. This combined with her impeccably styled red hair and charming personality has made her a fashion favorite, winning the hearts of vintage-lovers everywhere.

Steal her style with similar items [sold out!] here at LuLu*s! Here’s what I think Emma would be eyeing on our website after a day with the Glee Club:

Whenever I get a chance to peruse Lookbook, THE most awesome street fashion blog ever, I am inspired and amazed by all the creative looks individuals around the world have posted.

This week, I noticed that quite a few Lookbook members posted outfits incorporating items similar to Lulus.com! I felt I should share some of my favorites, so you LuLu*s fans can get a little inspired as well. Here are my favorite Lookbook pics for the week!

Look 1: Black Floral Tights

I love the way Robynne Mc. from Vancouver pairs the tights with her floral shorts and lace up shoes. It puts the floral pattern of the tights in the spotlight. Our Posh Lace Leggings in Black [sold out!] will give you a similar effect.

Look 2: Ditsy Florals

These cute floral prints (as seen on our Love Me Do Skirt in Floral [sold out!]) have been so popular lately! Adding a black contrast to this material is really effective. Rachel I. from Detroit pulls it off effortlessly.

Look 3: Slasher Leggings

Wow, we were all crazy about these leggings when they came in. It takes a certain kind of confidence to pull it off, and Carina Elisa Dorothea H. from Germany has got it! I love the way she makes the rest of her outfit really soft and feminine. Give it a go with our new Helsinki Cutout Leggings [sold out!].

Did you see these?
