]]> Is it a dress? Is it a swim suit? It’s both! Speedo and the UK brand From Somewhere have teamed up to bring you one of the most fashion-funky items out there:  the From Somewhere with Speedo collection.
In 2010, FINA (the international governing body of aquatic sports) banned swimmers from wearing full-body swimsuits when competing. It claimed that the suits gave competitors an unfair advantage and did not reflect the athetes’ true swimming ability. One such suit, the Speedo LZR Racer suit, was designed in 2008 and helped swimmers (including the lovely Michael Phelps at the 2008 Beijing Olympics) to break over ninety-one world records. The suits, which help increase bouyancy and reduce friction, were obviously hugely popular and largely produced. 
Once the ban went into effect, Speedo had a plethora of extra suits. Instead of just trashing them, however, the company decided to go green and team up with UK company From Somewhere, the creative sustainable fashion label run by Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci (the founders and curators of the British Fashion Council Estethica at London Fashion Week). Since 1997, this incredible brand has been taking luxury designer pre-consumer waste (like new swimsuits that can’t be used for their original purpose!) and turning it into something totally unique and fashionable.
This unique collaboration, says Speedo president David Robinson, “now allows the LZR Racer to be a design icon outside of the pool.” The idea behind the collection was to be “swimwear as daywear,” a totally unique and creative design that would give the designers a new way to play and Speedo a step out of the pool and onto the runway.
