Ladies We Love: Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep black & white portrait wearing hatIf you loved to hate Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada or were charmed by the bold cooking antics of Julia Child in Julie & Julia, then you have encountered the amazing talent of the one and only Meryl Streep.

From the Bridges of Madison County to her most recent film, It’s Complicated, Ms. Streep has never ceased to keep me coming back to her films. I always appreciate the way she transforms herself for each role so that you suddenly forget you are watching Meryl Streep and become completely involved with her character.

Send good vibes her way for this year’s Academy Awards, in which she is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Julie & Julia!

I WILL ONLY STAY 3 DAYS!

Flash mob protests Anna Wintour in Italy

Hot new news has just arrived from the forefront of Milan’s Fashion Week! The breaking news: Anna Wintour decided to stay only three/four of the five days of Milan’s fashion week.

What does that have to do with anything?

Anna Wintour in a fur coat and trademark sunglassesWell, first of all, after the launching of The September Issue (the documentary about Anna Wintour) following the popular The Devil Wears Prada (also based on Anna Wintour), Anna Wintour has become synonymous with VOGUE instead of being the editor of Vogue. The blessings of Miss Wintour seem to change the outcome of one’s success within the fashion industry instantly, and as Rodarte has seen, this blessing can be the basis of a fashion career itself.

This being said, it is VERY important that Anna Wintour herself is at the fashion shows of fashion week, which has become in many ways, Wintour’s week!

This year five days worth of shows in Milan have now been moved into three/four days. That is 88 shows crammed into no time at all! The consequences of this is that models, stylists, designers, and photographers will be hard pressed to make even half of the shows (which will be running just minutes after each other).

What was Milan’s response to this dictator-like approach to influencing fashion week? Thanks to Attila Bene Ortz, a flash mob of Anna Wintour look-a-likes was organized to stand in front of the shows!

Anna Wintour… I will only stay 3 days in Milan catwalks

Although many of the reviews state that this flash mob was done in vain, it was reported on almost every single major fashion blog and site around the world! So, girls, was it done in vain? Doesn’t look like it to me! I’m glad to see that fashionistas aren’t willing to settle, even if they are “told” it is necessary.

Ladies We Love: Emily Blunt

News | 14 December 2009

by

I was first struck by British actress Emily Blunt in The Devil Wears Prada where she played the crabby and disgruntled assistant to Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. Blunt’s character, Emily, managed to be a complete terror but completely loveable at the same time.

Needless to say, I loved her performance, but it wasn’t until I saw her roles in The Jane Austen Book Club and Sunshine Cleaning that I became familiar with Emily Blunt’s name and began to look out for her in films.

What I love about Emily Blunt is her spunk and versatility. She adopts each role and adds a little spice. She’s the type of character to enter the scene with all eyes on her and

Now that she’s a leading lady of her own, Emily Blunt is taking the spotlight as a well-known celebrity. Not only is she engaged to The Office‘s dreamy John Krasinski, but she has several major films on the way. Yay!

Blunt’s much anticipated The Young Victoria is being released in select theatres on Dec 18th. The film details the early reign of 18-year-old Queen Victoria and the love and passion she shared with Prince Albert.

A Victorian Era romance complete with period costumes? Yes, please! All hail Emily Blunt!!

Boots: Over the Knee and Out of Sight

Fashion | 22 September 2009

by

Ever since I saw Anne Hathaway sporting those thigh-high Chanel boots in The Devil Wears Prada, I knew my life was missing something.

Those old motorcycle boots I wore all last winter just wouldn’t cut it. I wanted over-the-knee in every color.

Thankfully, Fall 2009 has seen a plethora of over-the-knee boots on the runway and now on the market. Perfect paired with skinny jeans or a sexy mini and tights, these boots will beg to be worn everyday.

So imagine my glee when LuLu*s ordered a variety of over-the-knee boots in various colors and textures for the fall season. The Jeffrey Campbell A-Plus Grey Patent OMG OTK Heel Boot [sold out!] is so daring and fun; it looks straight off the runway.

I happily took home a pair of the G O Max Jiera 01 Black Suede OTK or Cuffed Flat Boot. With a flat foot and a slim upper, this boot was just what I was looking for.

A fairy tale ending, if I do say so myself. Stay tuned for more boots in the future!

Did you see these?
