Camel Art: Bikaner Camel Festival of Rajasthan, India

Art | 24 May 2012

by

Who doesn’t love a festival? The food, the music, the . . . camels? Yes! Welcome to the Bikaner Camel Festival, a two-day festival that takes place every year in Rajasthan, India.

The festival praises the four-legged desert inhabitant with camel parades, camel racing, camel dancing (say what?!) and even contests to judge the best decorated camels.
The best part of the festivities is how decked out these camels get with elaborate saddles, mirrors, flowers, and more! The competition looks fierce!

The local residents take up to three years to master their camel’s fur design, allowing for the hair to grow in so it can be trimmed and styled in intricate patterns. Beautiful. Especially, since it doesn’t hurt the camels!

Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 5: Night Rider

Dear Diary,

After going to North Shore, learning how to surf, and having a BBQ we decided to go on a hike through the Ma’akua gulch to swim in some waterfalls!

We drove to the East side of the island and traversed down a ravine that looked like it was straight out of Jurassic Park. At the end of the hike the walls closed in and we had to climb up a series of waterfalls to get to the end of the gulch! We got to a point where I couldn’t continue and had to watch as Mark (our guide) climbed up the face of a slippery 30 foot waterfall.

When we got home, despite being sore, we dressed up and rode our mopeds downtown for some dancing. Here’s what the girls wore out!

On Sierra the Made For Maui Dress by Collective Concepts was paired with Claire Fong earrings, a belt, and layered necklaces for an amaizingly simple but glamorous look! I threw in Sierra’s moped goggles to make for a fun and funny acessory to top off the look! Molly sports a vintage leather jacket over her shoulder and huge colorful bangles with a dress that I designed.

Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 4: Surf Lessons....

Dear Diary,

Day 4 and the surfing competition has commenced!

Well, ok, ok, I kinda, sorta, learned how to surf today, and despite my pathetic paddling skills I managed to actually get up on the board and then on a wave, which does equal surfing (at least in my world). Now that’s not to say that I was awesome at it or anything, but I did manage to get up and that was quite a feat to accomplish for me!

After my feeble attempt at surfing (with the help of my sister’s friend Mark) we retired home to a good ol’ fashioned BBQ … plus some super hot surfers … plus some girls in some absolutely adorable clothes… which equaled an awesome day in O’ahu!

Sierra is wearing an adorable leopard print dress that we had a while back, while Molly sports a beautifully draped vintage dress that I grabbed from the LuLu*s vintage section as soon as I could. (Keep updated on our vintage, as killer pieces come and go before you know it!) Remember to pair dresses with cute belts and killer high heels, and always top your outfit off with a pair of Claire Fong earrings.

Aloha from Hawai'i! Day 3: Sunset Beach

Dear Diary,

Today we ventured over to the North Shore of O’ahu to see what Sunset Beach was all about while a set was breaking. The waves were rolling in so strong that you couldn’t get in the water unless you had a surf board, and we watched at least one person break a board in the first half hour of being there.

Although it was dangerous — the waves are crashing over coral reefs — there were tons of surfers out. It was pretty awesome watching a legendary surf spot come to life!

Afterwards, we headed home to relax and chill in the hammocks around my sister’s house. Here are some pictures of the girls lounging about in one of our favorite Collective Concepts tops, cute vintage clothes, and Claire Fong fringe earrings (once again)!

Aloha From Hawai'i! Day 2: Daytime Dreamin'

Fashion | 23 March 2010

 Dear Diary,

This is the second update of my five-day visual fashion diary in the sun of O’ahu, Hawai’i, and I’m LOVIN’ every second of it. Today we mixed chains, gladiator sandals, leopard prints, and even a gold leaf crown with (yes, yet again) Claire Fong earrings for original but yet totally obtainable style.

In the first shot, on Sierra, we have cut-off shorts with top and necklaces designed by myself. To recreate this look, check out the Guard Rail Denim Shorts (pic below). These shorts would pair nicely with any patterned and textured top, as well as with any of your favorite sandals.

Molly’s outfit is all about the Melted Heart Dress (pic below), topped with a few well-chosen accessories. Remember to mix and match prints with textures such as ripped jeans, and top it off with chains in gold for an original masterpiece of style!
