denim trends 2014

Denim Trends 2014: Cool distressed details are still hot this year, but there are a few finer points that are making a presence in 2014.

Anything with straps: This includes overalls (long and short), plus overall skirts, and suspender shorts. This super-cute style will set you apart from the masses of shorty-shorts sure to be on every block this summer.

Light Wash: Nothing says summer sun like the bleached-out look of light wash denim, but don’t be afraid to rock this look well into fall and winter!

Super Seventies: Get your fix of 1976-inspired denim with bell-bottoms, but it doesn’t stop there. Combine trends by layering a cute retro crop top under those overalls, or reaching for those light-wash flares.

Leather trim trousers

Hi everyone! This is my final post in the fall series with LuLu*s and today we’re tackling the sporty trend.  Slouchy & track-style pants are totally in for the season, which is a major bonus for those of us who crave comfortable pieces that still look stylish!

Track pants

I personally like to add a heel when wearing looser-fitting pants because it elongates the leg line & adds a feminine touch.  These pants have such a modern feel & I love the faux leather detailing on the side.

Neutrals + plaid

I chose to pair them with more tailored pieces to balance out the sporty vibe, but you could just as easily wear them with a graphic tee & leather jacket for a cool weekend look.

Trench + relaxed trousers

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s posts & have gotten some good ideas for how to style these new trends with pieces you already own.  Thanks so much to LuLu*s for partnering with me!

What I’m wearing:

Trench (similar),  blouse (similar here or here), sweater (similar here or here), c/o LuLu*s Pants, heels ( similar here), Vintage clutch, watch (similar), bracelet (similar)

FashionLooks We Love: Tropical Print

Whether you’ve got Spring Break in your sights or your rear-view, live up those piña colada pipe dreams all the same in these hotter-than-the-tropics prints! From palm fronds to hibiscus, black and white to rainbow bright, tropical prints are riding a heat wave straight through our hearts and into our closets as we gear up for sunny days and rising temps. Just be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and some sweet shades… it’s a jungle out there.

ArtHigh Contrast in Fashion Magazine’s May Issue

If you’re a devoted LuLu*s follower, you’ve probably noticed that we’re more than just a little bit obsessed with black and white at the moment… and it appears we are not alone. We’ve found a kindred spirit in Canada’s Fashion Magazine, as this eye-catching editorial spread can attest. Striking stripes of black and white mingle with bold pops of red for an absolutely mod-velous ode to our chromatic crush, shot by photographer Chris Nicholls. Add model Samantha Rayner’s bold, bowl-meets-bob cut by Greg Wencel, and we simply cannot look away. So take in the sights of this visually stunning spread, and once you’re through, why not indulge yourself in a little something striped?

FashionTrend Alert: J’Adore D’Orsay

As sexy as a bikini for your feet, these two-piece pumps and flats are equal parts classic and on-trend. This style has been around since the turn of the 19th century, but that doesn’t mean this arch-bearing archetype can’t have a major moment in the modern world. So air out those arches and make room for some delightful d’Orsay shoes!
