FashionTrend to Try: Sculpted Shoulders!

Are you ready to try some sculpted shoulders?

Okay, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but between Lady Gaga, Rhianna and tons of other fashionable celebs, the pointy shoulder thing has gone from extreme to mainstream. Ranging from large conical protuberances down to a little pinch and tuck, I think there is a padded/pointed/sculpted shoulder for everyone!

Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen and Naya Rivera of Glee.

Rhianna went casual in this sculpted sweater dress, and Anne Hathaway is looking positively divine in this glamorous sequin gown.

So, are you ready?

BeautyA Fresh Look at Spring Makeup: Inspiration from Smashbox Cosmetics

This spring I am excited by all the beautiful neutrals that are popping up everywhere. Lace, chiffon, and other soft fabrics have been featured in every imaginable shade of nude, blush, and taupe. This fresh bloom of femininity has me thinking:  what does this mean for makeup? A while back, my questions were answered with the Smashbox Spring 2011 Collection, In Bloom. Smashbox, as you know, is one of my all time favorite brands, known for highly pigmented colors and beautiful artistry. This is an ultra-pretty lineup of shades embodying the fresh feeling of spring. I am in love with the soft and subtle greys, muted lilacs, and dewy cheeks.  This is a look that anyone can rock; how far you go is up to you!

Here are two of the featured looks, Grey Glam on the left and Petal on the right. I am especially in love with the lilac look of Petal. It’s so sultry without looking like you have on a face-full of makeup. It accentuates the eyes, and the light is hitting all the right places on the face.  You can always tone it down or kick it up a notch depending on your mood. These looks have a fierce femininity to them without being overpowering. I was so inspired and excited by this collection that I wanted to share some of my favorite tips to create a soft spring look. Incorporating some Smashbox was a no-brainer, and I have also included some other favorite standout products that work so well for me.

Brand new and highly anticipated is the Philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. Philosophy has been a long time favorite for those of us serious about skin care. Based off their bestseller Hope in a Jar, an award winning daily moisturizer, this tinted moisturizer embodies the same qualities we love so much in the original. Now in a tinted formula, this little tube of joy is loaded with antioxidants and armed with an SPF 20 to keep you looking naturally beautiful.

Looking refreshed and alert is hard to achieve at 7 AM. Unless you are a naturally ethereal goddess and look amazing in the early hours of the morning, this will be your new secret weapon! My favorite high lighter to date, Benefit’s High Beam, is one of those products that is hard to live with out once you try it. This lumizing cream adds the perfect highlight needed to achieve that dewy, healthy look. Dab it along the tops of your cheekbone and blend out towards the temple, swipe lightly along the top of your nose, and a dab on your your chin giving you the perfect glow. Don’t worry about looking like a disco ball! This product is just glowy enough with out having too much shimmer or sparkle. Be advised that a little goes a long way and blending is key!  Luckily, it is rich and creamy enough to blend easily.

Cream blushes are the best thing to use when trying to achieve a fresh spring glow! More moisturizing than a powder blush, cream formulas are easy to apply with your fingers and blend out very naturally. My new favorite is the In Bloom Creamy Cheek Duo from Smashbox in their new spring line, In Bloom, mentioned above. I love the peach and deep pink combo. Natural flush? Yes please!

This is the grand daddy of eye shadow paletttes! Introducing the fabulous, the one, and only Smashbox In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette! This amazing set has 10 soft shimmer and matte shadows to create a myriad of combinations this spring. If you buy one beauty product this season make sure you snatch up this pallete before it is too late. You will not be dissapointed! Imagine the possibilities!

An amazing mascara has no season, and the Dior favorite that has been making the beauty world go ’round for some time is Diorshow. Runway inspired and crafted to create the most dramatic and thick lashes, this mascara is a favorite of pros and makeup fanatics around the world. With spring makeup being softly smokey in flower-inspired shades, a great lash line will be very important to draw attention to and open up those eyes! This product will take your lashes to the next level. While not exactly the price of your typical drugstore mascara, it is definitely worth every penny!

Last but definitely not least is the oh-so-popular Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. Kiehl’s has been around since 1851 so you better believe they know how to make a good lip balm! This little tube will have you addicted you from day one, so watch out! Perfectly smooth and moisturizing, this lip balm leaves the slightest shine to complete your spring look! Stick this in your pocket or purse and trust me, don’t leave home without it!

Now that you have all the necessary ingredients to create the face of Spring 2011, you need to get shopping to find some to-die-for spring wardrobe necessities!

FashionCelebrity Style: Leigh Lezark

If you are not familiar with Leigh Lezark already, you will definitely be unable to forget her after these pictures! This DJ and model is best known for her part in the New York City-based trio, the Misshapes. Made up of three DJs, The Misshapes dominated the New York City party scene for several years, throwing weekly events, and becoming well known for both their taste in music and fashion. Leigh has DJ’d and created compiliations for major fashion shoes including Chanel, Calvin Klein, L.A.M.B., Tory Burch, and more. Trademarking a chic and dark palette, Leigh’s monochromatic looks make her one to watch.

Check out some closeups below!

My favorite thing about her style is that she rarely veers from black. While not a style for everyone, Leigh makes this look her own!  She often sticks to a long and lean, black-on-black ensemble though occasionally seen in white, grey, or a dash of purple. With porcelain skin and a midnight-black bob, her style is always sleek and put togther.

Here Leigh is caught in a few rare moments wearing a gorgeous fuscia! I love this color on her, it really shows off her glossy hair and pale skin!

If you want to see more Leigh Lezark check out the Misshapes site or her gallery of photos highlighting her fabulous style on Style.com.

FashionLacey Love

Lace is a timeless fabric which evokes femininity and whimsy.  We have seen our fair share of amazing lace dresses at LuLu*s lately! What I love about lace is that, depending on the cut, you can achieve a variety of looks! Get inspired with some of my favorite pictures below!

Black and white seem to be the best options for lace pieces. Cream and antiqued, muted colors also work well. Any other color selections would be too intense! Neon green lace dress anyone?

If you are loving the lace look here are my favorite choices! From vintage-inspired gamine to club-ready party dress, we have something for everyone!

Above we have the Vintage Vixen Lace Dress and the Lily Fawn Cream Lace Dress. These vintage inspired-styles remind me of the perfect 60′s/70′s dresses you can never find used! I love the peter pan style on the Lily Fawn Dress!

Here we have the Snowberry Lane Lace Dress in Black and White. This amazing dress has everything rolled into one. Super cute bell sleeve and a great scalloped hem, this dress is so versatile you can wear it again and again!

FashionFashion Week Has BEGUN: Hot New Trends to Come!!!

Drum roll………………..

Fashion week has officially begun and we’ll be reporting on our favorite of the hot new trends to come!

Here are two shows from the Spring 2011 Ready-To-Wear that I actually found quite interesting.

First of all I thoroughly enjoyed breezing through this sandy collection by Jen Kao

My favorite part were the macramé knee high sandal boots.

Overall, I felt as if I had taken a breath of fresh after going through this collection. Despite the fact that she kept it safe with going almost completely colorless I think there are some amazing pieces in this collection.

After the ocean breeze of Jen Kao I needed a little urban jungle color in my life. I looked through the Peter Som collection to get my fix of color.

Som proved that mix-matching patterns is still as hot as monotone colored dresses.

What do you think of these two collections?

Do you go for colorful or monochrome looks?
